'Les Femmes (The Women)' Illustrated Poem
Poem of longing. Handset type and a linocut illustration block create a visual motif combining verse, ink and paper. In France there is a little town where a river runs hidden. Once the central living vein for the community, modernity has relegated the river to a marginal existence, its power hidden beneath the town’s infrastructure and behind the town’s walls. Les Femmes speaks with sorrow of what has been lost and gestures quietly to what may be re-found.
Printed with an historic ‘Arab’ Printing Press (circa 1901-1904) on handmade Japanese Awagami Okawara paper, with 12 pt Baskerville type and salvaged unknown 24pt type.
Poem in French with an English translation. French accents are drawn by hand with a nib pen.
Edition of 9.
