'Les Innocents (The Innocent)' Illustrated Poem
Created with handset type and a linocut illustration block, Les Innocents has the tactile quality of an historical illustrated page from early 20th Century childrens’ publications. Ink, text and illustration converge in a poem of quiet sincerity; a plea for spiritual purity in the troubling machinations of history and in the human soul.
Les Innocents was printed with an historic ‘Arab’ Printing Press (circa 1901-1904) on handmade Japanese Awagami Okawara paper, with 12 pt Baskerville type and salvaged unknown 24 pt type.
Poem in French with an English translation. French accents drawn in by hand with a nib pen.
Edition of 12
